Design & Artwork
Do I need to have my own artwork, or can you create one from my idea?
Both options work! We can use your existing artwork, making any minor adjustments needed to fit our process, or we can create a custom design for you from scratch. Just share your idea and we'll bring it to life!
How much detail can I add to my design?
There are some limitations on fine detail, as very tiny elements that can't be painted in will need to be avoided. For text, short single words of 5 characters or less can be hand painted, while longer text of about 10–20 characters can be stamped instead.
Can you print full-color artwork?
Yes! We love working with full-color designs. While we focus on rich, solid fields of color rather than shading or gradual hue transitions, the beautiful way light plays off our glazes naturally brings wonderful depth and movement to every piece. And when an image calls for a second or third color within a single area, we're happy to make that happen!
Are there any restrictions on the images I can use?
We're not able to reproduce images that require licensing unless you own the license. Original artwork and custom designs are all welcome!
Ornament Specs
What are your available ornament shapes and sizes?
Our ornaments typically range from 84mm–110mm (about 3¼ to 4¼ inches) in any direction, with most designs falling between 55mm–90mm. Longer, narrower designs, like a surfboard, tend to run closer to the 110mm end, around 100mm x 45mm. All ornaments are 5mm thick (½ a centimeter).
The best part? We can create ornaments in virtually any shape! We love the clean, custom "die cut" or "iced cookie" look, but we can also frame more delicate designs within a larger shape, like a circle, egg, rectangle, or organic outline, to protect finer details and give them a beautiful, finished look.
Can printing be done on one side or both sides?
We add color to the front side of each ornament. The back features our Little Clay Hen Studio branding stamp by default, but we do offer a fun personalization option! For an additional cost per ornament, you can replace it with a name and date, a simple logo (depending on detail), or a short message, making it an extra special keepsake.
Ordering & Pricing
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Good news, there's no minimum for small orders! For wholesale pricing, we do require a minimum initial order of 30 ornaments, but that can be a mix of designs if you're ordering more than one, making it easy to sample a variety.
Would you be able to do between 50 to 200 ornaments?
Absolutely, we specialize in multiples and are well set up to handle orders in that range!
What is your pricing, including any setup or proofing fees?
There is a one-time setup fee of $35 per design. The cost per ornament varies based on the level of detail and number of colors in your design, with prices ranging from $30–$50 retail (wholesale pricing is 50% of retail). If you'd like a custom back stamp, there is a small additional charge per ornament.
Can I reorder the same design?
Absolutely! We keep your file on hand, so reorders are always available.
Production & Proofing
Do you offer a digital proof or physical sample before full production?
Yes to both! We'll typically have a digital proof ready for your review within 1–2 weeks, this is included with the set up fee. If you'd like a physical sample before moving into full production, that's available as well and takes an additional 1–2 weeks. Physical proofs are invoiced separately.
What is your turnaround time?
Once your proof is approved and we move into production, turnaround is generally about one month per 1–50 ornaments. Keep in mind that timing can vary depending on other orders we have in progress at the time your order is placed.
Can I rush my order?
Rush orders may be available depending on the time of year. We're generally able to accommodate rush requests in the spring and early summer, but not during the fall or holiday season when our order volume is at its peak. Just ask when placing your order and we'll let you know what's possible.
Packaging & Shipping
Do you offer gift boxes?
Yes! Each ornament in small orders automatically comes in a clear top gift box. For wholesale orders, gift boxes are available to purchase separately if desired.
How do you ship, and do you offer tracking?
We ship via USPS Ground unless you request otherwise, and all orders include tracking. Please note that we do not ship internationally at this time.
